Did you know a baby’s brain at 35 weeks weighs only two-thirds of what it will weigh at 39 to 40 weeks (according to the 2008 March of Dimes Foundation)? Upsilon Nu Zeta partnered with the Dallas March of Dimes to prepare pertinent information and handouts for area health care providers that stress the importance of full term pregnancies. Important organs, such as the brain, lungs, and liver need time to fully develop before birth. At times, scheduling an early birth for non-medical reasons can cause problems for mom and baby. Upsilon Nu Zeta’s Stork Nest provides classes and incentives to promote prenatal care participation and healthy behaviors during the pregnancy. In conjunction with National Bullying Awareness Month, YNZ is reaching out to our service area to educate youth on bullying prevention and response. Through our Bullying in the Schools Program, participants will learn what bullying is and steps on how to receive help when needed. There are various types of bullying including verbal, social, physical, and the rapidly growing cyber bullying. Parents and guardians are encouraged to speak with their children about bullying and become active participants in their children’s school lives.
